What do the SWAT Colors (vest patch) mean to you?
SWAT Colors mean Sisterhood to me made up of strong, intelligent, independent, and beautiful women coming together as one team to support common goals and to share the “love” of motorcycling. When you see SWAT you see family and friendships that will never be broken, thus symbolizing the handcuffs. We are “Sisters” and will be forever bonded together for life!
What is your first Motorcycling memory?
My first Motorcycling memory is when I first ventured out of my neighborhood onto MD route 228 in Waldorf. I was looking around and thinking to myself look at all the cars and then it’s me and my friend. The feeling was so overwhelming, so at the very next intersection I proceeded to turn around and go home. After stopping at the traffic light a woman was on the opposite side of the street on her cell phone. When my light turned green to make a left turn she proceed to go through her light which was still red and needless to say I thank God that I remembered my “quick stop” from the safety class. She came very close to hitting me and by being a new rider I was shaken up a bit. My friend and I continued home and once I parked my bike in the garage it stayed there for 2 weeks before I ventured out again.
What is your most embarrassing Motorcycling memory?
My most embarrassing Motorcycling memory is when I almost dropped my bike in the neighborhood trying to make a turn and my friend and his boys had to run over and grab the bike.
What advise would you give to a novice rider and/or future prospective member of SWAT?
To the novice rider, I would advise you to take the safety course first. People may offer to teach you to ride; however, riding is a skill and there are basic safety precautions that must be taken when riding. I also encourage “all” riders to ride your ride! By this I mean, no your limits and only ride at your comfort level. You are in control of your motorcycle not the people you’re riding with. For future prospective members, SWAT is definitely an organization of commitment, dedication, and love for one another. Search your heart before requesting to prospect and ask yourself if you want to forever be surrounded by women that love you, love your family as their own, will protect you, and always motivate and encourage you to be the best person you can be. If your answer is yes to these questions then you’re ready for SWAT!
